Fixing Minecraft Marketplace not loading on Nintendo Switch

After the most recent update to Minecraft, my son’s Minecraft Marketplace on his Nintendo Switch started showing this “connecting” animation you see when it’s disconnected from the internet.

I tried restarting his Switch and waited a few hours, telling him it was probably the new update that broke it. Days later it still wasn’t working. So I found checking for corrupt data and re-installing the software solved the issue. This fix might work for other issues as well. Here are the steps, with pictures.

First, navigate to the System Settings screen, click Data Management then click Manage Software.

Step One – System Settings screen, click Data Management then click Manage Software

Second, click the Minecraft game icon on this Manage Software screen.

Step Two – Click on Minecraft in Manage Software

Lastly, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the Minecraft software menu, click “Check for Corrupt Data”. You’ll have to wait while the system runs it’s checks.

Step Three – Check for Corrupt Data, None Found? Accept Re-Install Menu Option

After you check for corrupt data, if no corrupt data is found, i.e. that doesn’t solve the issue then a prompt will ask if you want to reinstall the minecraft game software. Click yes and after the game re-installs then you should re- log into minecraft with your Microsoft account.

Check the marketplace and it should load up fine now. Worked for me.

Also, due to the popularity of this tutorial (i.e. great comments/feedback I’ve received), I made a video with even more specifics and posted it here on my youtube channel “ahh” videos:

I created an additional video that answers a few recurring questions from people regarding whether their data would be deleted or become corrupted. Also I have details on the “archive software” option that worked for some people.

These are some additional Nintendo Support articles that are very helpful and contain the “official” details on how to managed data on the Switch:

      1. Hello, I’m sorry to hear this. You may want to try archiving the game in the manage software menu. Then you re-install the game. Your worlds should save fine. Just to be extra safe, you can use a Nintendo Switch online subscription to backup your save data. The archive approach works better for some people.

          1. I find thid fix works for some people and not for others. Some times archiving the game and redownloading works. And for some people they have to reset cache in format options or format their device. Or worst case its a hardware issue and you need a new console. There are lots of scenarios.

          2. After a while it eventually fixed and all purchases on other consoles are here, thanks Jared stay safe!

            1. Excellent! I was going to mention that sometimes even after you do the fix on your console I believe it takes a few hours maybe even a day for their servers to properly sync, but I didnt want to get your expectations up so I told you about the other possible fix options. Im glad to hear that everything is working now! Have fun gaming, take care. Thx for stopping by. 🙂

        1. Hi! Thanks for the tip with the marketplace, do you have a solution for the Microsoft account disconnecting all the time?
We always have to enter the code on aka.ms/remoteconnect …

          Kind regards

          1. Hi, thanks for stopping by. I also have this issue with the Microsoft account frequently disconnecting. I have yet to find a good solution for it. I think the best thing is probably just to make sure you have a solid internet connection and that your Switch and Minecraft are always connected or that you play the game frequently. It’s as though if a person hasn’t played the game in a few days or if the internet on the Switch turns off for any amount of time, then the Switch somehow doesn’t retain the Microsoft account connection. It’s really bad system/software design if you ask me. If I come up with a better solution I will be sure to make a blogpost about it. Great question though!! Also, if you find a better solution, please pass it along. Thank you,

            1. The Minecraft Store for me still isn’t working. I read through the thread you had with another person here, and I did everything you said. I don’t need a new console, I just bought my OLED last week. And this issue occurred on my last switch console. I thought maybe the Minecraft store would work now. It still doesn’t even after all the reinstalling. Resting. Now working for months. How will I be able to play this game again? After all the money i put in, for the different maps I bought???

              1. Its super frustrating, right? I cant believe Mojang, Microsoft, Nintendo havent sorted this out yet. Im just a guy trying to help. Maybe I could be of more help if I knew more specifics about what you have tried and what you havent tried. Did you try the alternate approach with the archiving option? You have a brand new Switch, have you contacted or emailed Nintendo or Microsoft and told them you followed all their articles like done a system update, reinstalled, etc and it still wont work? The only thing I can think of is that its nothing to do with your Switch but poasibly your account needs to be refreshed on their server or something if you have a new Switch, so they might be able to help you with that. Otherwise, unfortunately sometimes they dont fix these things until future updates. If you are prepared with the info like exact version of your Switch, version of the game, etc that might help troubleshoot it.

      2. I found this almost immediately after consulting Google, and I’m grateful. Your solution worked perfectly, thank you so much!

        1. Thanks for the awesome comment! I appreciate you stopping by and for the insight on how you found my blog. Please stop by again and take care. 🙂

      3. OMG!!!!! THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!!! I’ve been trying to find a fix for this problem with no luck but it is now thanks to you Jared.

      4. Thank you soooooo much!! My son has been having this issue forever! He only told me about it today so I went online and almost immediately found your post! 😊 Happy kid, happy house! 😉😂

        1. Awesome! So glad that it worked out well for you and your son. I know how it goes. I created this tutorial based upon my son’s struggles with the marketplace, so I figured I do would I can to help others out. I’ve gotten great feedback. I’m happy I could help! Thanks for your excellent comment!

        1. Yes, if no corrupt data is found then I noted you will likely need to redownload and reinstall the game. This shouldnt wipe out your MC world game data. If you want to be sure it wont just make sure you have backed up your data to the cloud on that menu.

        1. Hello, sorry to hear this. One of my kids had a similar issue. We found that redownloading, installing, didnt make the images to the marketplace show up but he was able to purchase things and use things from the marketplace by clicking on each one. Eventually the switch resynced and the images appear now. First step is following this tutorial, then waiting, and testing out your purchased content or trying another small purchase to see if it will resync . Another more possibly complex way is ive read you can use the archive menu and that will archive your game install and data. That will likely give you a fresh install when you redownload. I have less knowledge of this way but ive read about it on MC Discord servers.

      5. Thanks! I just found this and have used it several times! Seems my switch doesn’t like Minecraft but this makes it easy to use again! 🙂

        2. I am having the same issue… Tried checking for corrupt data and then redownloading. Still not working. Were you able to figure it out? Thanks!

      6. Here I’ve been waiting patiently for weeks just thinking there’s a lot of traffic to the marketplace 😂😂😂 thanks so much!

          1. This didnt help me at all it wiped out my Microsoft account and all of my purchases I was sad because I spent a lot of money on Minecraft and now its all gone

            1. Hmm, Ive never heard of this happening. The nintendo support FAQ says you can reinstall without issues. Have you contacted Microsoft or Mojang? They should be able to restore your purchases. Reinstalling the game does not cause you to lose your account. You need to make sure you know your password to relogin or you can recover your password with your email. Your purchases and account should not be gone from doing this tutorial. These are all things allowed in the Switch menu, so they wont break or erase your Microsoft your account. Microsoft and Nintendo are separate companies so you cannot delete or wipe out your Microsoft account from your Switch. Its not possible. You can only log off of your account.

      7. This still didn’t help my sons Marketplace. We can use the market place on their tablet Minecraft games but not on the switch. Internet is up and running. Not sure what’s wrong with it.

      8. Thank you very very much! Our problem with the Marketplace is finally fixed after so many weeks.
It was so annoying and now my daughter and I are so happy.
Greetings from Switzerland and all the best for you and your Family

      9. Omg I wish I could meet you and give you a huge high-five! After listening to my 9 year old b**** and moan for close to 4 months, your post is the only one that worked! I have searched and downloaded and changed crap, with nothing but a heartache and headache in the end! Thank you from a ecstatic 9 year old and a grateful momma!

      10. This didnt help me at all it wiped out my Microsoft account and all of my purchases I was sad because I spent a lot of money on Minecraft and now its all gone

      11. Does the reinstall-option (after no corrupt data found) delete the already created worlds, as in completely deletes the entire game and reinstalls it, including wiping existing data? I find it a bit annoying that you do not point out the answer such an obvious question. I have the cartridge version.

        1. Hello, thank you for your comment. This fix works with either the cartridge or eShop version. I can understand if you are feeling a bit annoyed that I didn’t answer the “does the data get deleted” question right off the bat. I write these tutorials, make the videos for fun as a hobbie/tiny source of ad revenue income, because I have a day job, and I don’t take tons of time writing them to answer all questions. Its a fair assessment that maybe I should update the written tutorial to mention more about the data being deleted aspect. This is good feedback. For now, please take a look at the second video I created regarding how to properly retain your save data, also, I have compiled this answer to a number of folks who have asked a similar question, because the Nintendo FAQ makes it clear that data should not be deleted when you reinstall, so when I wrote the tutorial, I suppose I assumed this was common knowledge. Here is the additional detail: For most people it causes no problems and the nintendo support FAQ says your data is safe when you reinstall, redownload the game and updates (https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22289/~/data-management-faq#s1q3). In rare cases, some worlds and situations the game or worlds become somehow corrupt. Ive only seen it twice out of hundreds of people. to avoid any issues, backup your worlds via switch online cloud backup or even better, upload your world to a realm then the world as a backup download to windows desktop version this is the most safe way to backup in any situation. My tutorial works for most people. please try it at your own risk and with understanding I dont work for Nintendo, or Mojang/Microsoft, just as long as you backup data you are always ok. These links show you how to move your data backups to your PC or Mac via realm – https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360034754892-Transferring-Minecraft-worlds-to-another-device-

Finally, if you want all this info in one place and if something goes wrong, see the end of my blog article for how to recover corrupt world save data: https://jaredkunz.com/fixing-minecraft-marketplace-not-loading-on-nintendo-switch I have a few links and info such as this https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Recover_corrupted_saved_world_data

        1. Hmm, Ive never heard of this happening. It sounds like maybe you didn’t log back in with your Microsoft account. Did you log back in with your account?” The nintendo support FAQ says you can reinstall without issues(https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22289/~/data-management-faq#s1q3). The other things you can try is re-starting your console or if you’ve tried everything I’ve listed including the tutorial on my blog, you should give it a day or so in case there is a server issue on Nintendo/Microsoft/Mojang’s side. Finally, if none of these things work there are some more complex things I can recommend, but first give the above things a try.

      12. Thank you Jared, these simple steps worked for me after months of frustration from my 6/8 year old. I appreciate you posting this to help myself and others alike. Keep it up

        1. You are welcome my friend. I am sorry to hear about your frustration yet I’m happy that my blogpost/website has helped solved this for you and your family. This is exactly why I post these fixes and tutorials, i.e. to help people and share my knowledge. Definitely I will keep it up. Your positive comments keep me motivitated to continue writing posts, tutorials and to continue maintaining my website. Thank you for stopping by and for this awesome comment!

      13. I couldnt solve my issue yeah and you will say “make sure to have a great internet connection” but i dont work in the internet company so i cant control that? you get me?

        1. Hi, thanks for stopping by. If I say “make sure you have a good internet connection” I mean, “make sure your connection within your own house/apartment/etc is solid”. I’m not expecting anyone to call the internet company, unless you’re having consistent internet problems and you would probably want to get a different Internet Service Provider or request their support. I only say this, even if it’s obvious because, believe it or not, some people actually don’t verify if they have a solid internet connection before they try the tutorials and then once they verify their connection then their problem is solved when they do the tutorial.

It sounds like you’re frustrated, so I’m sorry to hear that, I understand, I get frustrated about this stuff. I don’t work for Nintendo/Mojang or Microsoft. If you try the tutorial and it doesn’t work, I’m sorry, maybe let me know what you’re seeing on your video game screen and I can give you some other ideas. I’m just a regular person out here trying to help people. Usually a few people have let me know what they’re seeing and I’ve been able to help them out here or also I help them on my Youtube channel with this aned other issues. Check it out sometime. 350 subs or so and growing. https://youtube.com/user/nurbshead thanks!

      14. Thanks a lot. This solved it for me.
I also have an issue with the switch finding friends playing minecraft crossplatform. We have the switch, ps4 and a laptop here at home. when my boys and me want to play together the switch cant see the other two playing on the ps4 or laptop. Have you ran across this?

        1. Good to hear this helped. Thanks for visiting my site. Cross platform play can be tricky. There are a lot of variables. As long as you are all logged in with your account on Bedrock edition, I think it should work. I’m not an expert in this area, sorry, but I know there are a lot of helpful videos on youtube. Good luck, have fun.

      15. Thank you so much! My Minecraft marketplace was like that for over a year and i never looked up how to fix it until last night and all i had to do was reinstall it and it worked so thank you 🙂

        1. Thank you Sharkies, I really appreciate your comment. I am happy to help out and support the community. Thats why I write these how to articles. Take it easy and have fun!

      16. Thank you very much for this, it worked! Until now each of my 3 kids have had this issues on their switch lites, me too on my original, red box & oled model (even on fresh new downloads for some reason), now it’s finally fixed. My kids are very happy thanks to you!

        1. You’re welcome! thank you for this great comment and detailed feedback. Always good to know how this fix is working on the latest Switch models. Take it easy. Have fun.

      17. I know this is an old post, but I found it when I finally went hunting for a reason my Marketplace wouldn’t load pictures. These steps worked, and I appreciate you’ve continued to leave the post up for others to find. Thank you!

      18. Thanks! my marketplace is no longer lines of code, however i play on switch and can’t get a pack to update. do you have any suggestions?

        1. Hiya, I like the lines of code reference. Regarding the pack not updating, have you tried the basic things like logging out and back into your MS account or restarting your Switch?
