Two of my kids came to me the other day complaining that they were having issues logging into Minecraft Dungeons on Nintendo Switch. I was able to resolve their problem. Here is what I did (see the end of these steps for a link to a youtube video I recently made of this tutorial).
Step One: Verify you have a solid internet connection and if you have somehow turned on airplane mode you will get this error. Be sure to turn off airplane mode:
Step Two: Along with a solid internet connection ensure your battery is charged well enough to connect to the internet. I find you need at least about 10% or battery to maintain a solid internet connection.
Step Three: Try to sign in by pressing “A” for “Online Game” on this menu, after you’re certain you have a good battery charge and internet connection.
Next, you might see one of the following multitudinous errors provided by the Minecraft Dungeons game. Please keep scrolling through these screen shots until you see the error you are receiving (or if I didn’t happen to capture the error you received feel free to let me know in a comment):
Now to resolve these errors, you will need to get back to the main screen either by exiting from these error screens or just restarting the app or even restarting the game system if you want to go all the way from the top. Once you restart the game, here is where you can go to begin the fix.
Step Four: At the main screen in the bottom right corner, there is a “settings ZR” indicator text as highlighted in this picture. Push the ZR button to navigate to the settings menu (trust me, this settings menu was not easy for me to find and I work with computer systems and websites all day long).
Step Five: Next navigate on the “Settings” menu to the “Game” menu (a very descriptive name for a menu, right?)
Step Six: Navigate from the “Game” menu to the “Configure Online Play” menu. Now we’re getting a little more descriptive info. It even has additional text reading “Configure your online play experience, manage your account and add friends (aha!! thats what we want. How I found this, I do not know nor recall). I might have found it in some deep dark corner of the Microsoft minecraft support help info online…but I’m hoping to save you the trouble.
Step Seven: At long last we have found the “Sign out of your Microsoft Account” menu/button!!! What a journey! We only had to dive through approximately three layers of menus and four total button pushes (ZR settings->A Game ->A Config Online Play -> A Sign out). Wow, we should feel accomplished!
Step Eight: But wait, there is one more step in order to sign out. Everyone’s favorite, “sign out confirmation menu” just in case after navigating three levels deep and four button pushes, you all of the sudden decided you accidentally came down and didn’t want to sign out:
Now it will confirm that you have signed out, showing this image:
Step Nine: You will now need to sign in again. First go back to the main screen, try to sign in by pressing “A” for “Online Game” on this menu, again, verify you you have a good battery charge and internet connection:
Step Ten: Follow the instructions for re-associating your account with your Switch.
You should see this code to link your account. Please follow the instructions exactly as they outline so you can avoid more account issues:
If the fix worked, then you should be logged back in, and when you press “A” to go to the “Online Game” menu, you should see this menu on the right hand of the following screen shot “START ONLINE GAME”. This indicates you are connected and you can begin your online game.
I hope this tutorial worked for you and if so, please let me know in the comments or let me know if you have suggestions how I can improve this tutorial. Thank you for reading.
Thanks for the guide, helped me help my boys get back to playing. Appreciate the effort!

Hi Jared I’m trying to use your guide to fix my connection however for some reason I don’t have configure online play below my HUD Scale one my game on the t.v. Can you please help me out?
Hello, just to verify, you are using Minecraft Dungeons on Nintendo Switch, correct?
Hi Jared.
I am having the same issue as Natalie. Configure online play is not an option. I’m on a Switch. I have a good internet connection and the switch is charged. Thanks for any insight!
Do you have a Nintendo switch online subscription? You need that per this FAQ

Thanks, Jared. We don’t have an online subscription. My kids played before without an online subscription and were able to save their progress. Maybe something changed? I will sign-up and give it a try. Thank you! I really appreciate your response!
Hi Jared!
I have followed your steps as listed in order, but for some reason it’s still not working, is there a way to fix this? If so, send me an email listing the probable causes and solution at ****@gmail.com
I sent you a reply via email with some additional ideas and causes. Haven’t heard back so I’m assuming it worked out.
